This is so me this card... This really sums up my style... Lot's of layers all overlapping each other to show there's room for all, Blossom to add a bit of gentleness, Clock to keep track of time, without time we can't see how much we have grown, The word smile because a smile cost nothing and can make the invisible feel as tho they belong, The hand points to ONE because I believe in the One True God, Brown Tones Because It reminds me of my Rural Heritage, And all of the other things are just for fun and make me happy when I use them... So yes I do put a lot of thought into my Art, Because It's a little bit of me.... I wonder why you use the things you do... Feel free to tell me in the comments on this post.. I'd love to know..I reckon when you actually think about your ART you will find there are some common threads you use regularly, and you might even suddenly realise there is a reason you express with these things. Hey it might even help you embrace your style..TTFN Gillian :o)
I can see how this sums up your style Gillian. It is interesting and full of depth with a little quirky something to make you smile. And big flower. Has to have the big flower which i always think goes with your big heart. I don't know what my style is. It is colour that attracts me first and draws me in. (interesting that two of my children are colour blind...)I also like to have groups of 3 in everything that I do. Maybe its my love of God as Trinity? Oooh this is a hard - but good question!

ReplyDeleteFor me combining different elements to make one beautiful embellishment is common. A page doesn't feel finished if I don't do this most typically with flowers. I also like strong colours combined on neutral backgrounds I have an idea of what this represents and is sililar to the layering but am not ready to share it here... you have my mind ticking. : )

Indeed your big,generous heart is apparent in your creations ! Most admirable ..... well in my earlier days of creating cards I used to use photos a lot - to provoke an emotional response - depending on what the theme might be - whether to inspire or to state something poetic ( but visually ) , normally I would prefer to be encouraging in terms of generating a response for the recipient ... but I havent done Sympathy cards hmmmm....

I don't always put meaning into my scrapbooking... only occasionally. The last one I can remember was a wedding page and I put three fibres across it and half way plaited them - a cord of three strands is not easily broken.

ReplyDeletegood question for which I have no immediate answer as of yet. Might have to come back once I have figured that one out. I am going to look at the last few layouts I have created and see if there is a common thread. I do know that for me its telling a story first with everything else second. If that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteYou like to ask the tough questions! I'm not sure I have a style as such - I like to experiemtn with techniques. I haven't been cardmaking or scrapbooking that long so I guess I'm trying to run to catch up! However, I do know what I like and what I like to emulate. I guess I'm aiming for what I call a simple elegance.... I think! :)

ReplyDeleteI make cards that I would like to buy but can't find (they are difficult to find where I live in France by the way)! I have noticed that I love pretty papers and I always use prima flowers because I love flowers! And oh, hmmm, I love PINK!

Hi Gillian, well I just start with something that I have in my mind, most of the time. I just start creating puting things together like, paper, flowers, ribbon etc.. or I just play with paper & embellishments the way I Like or I think they look nice or the way the have to go to create balance, rythm... etc...

ReplyDeleteI don't like boundaries such as having to work to a pattern. I like to just do it and see if it works. If it does then fab....if not well I learnt not to do that again....lol!!!

ReplyDeleteWell, first of all you made a wonderful card again. Love the tones but the flower under the clock was what fixed my eyes first. I'm an agronomy engeneer and the rural heritage it's also very important to me.
ReplyDeleteAbout what I do? I realised last year that even when I see works of other scrappers, cardmakers, artworkers, full of details, (and I spend many hours travelling around blogs and sites enjoying the others work), everytime I seat to make a LO or a card, probably I will only use one embelishment or maybe none. Paper and inks are definitly what I like most. They must straight and clean style. Yes, that's the way my art is. Even, when I do my clay modelling :)
Gillian, not only are you teriffic in your card making, but your writing as well. I love how you just added to this card just by telling about it. You absolutely ROCK girl!!!!
