a new series.....

'the collage series'
 no.2
 no.1
In this new series of brooches I share my love for collage art.
The felt I use is 100% pure wool which adds not only to joy of wearing but to the enduring quality of the brooch.  Each brooch has its own unique personality some may come with little antique or vintage buttons others may have some free form stitching adding detail. I look forward to sharing more of this series with you as they are created.
..................
These three little houses appeared in the series this week
I do enjoy making these sweet little felt homes.

I do hope you are having a lovely week,

little houses.....

There is something about little houses that pleases me.
It is such a familiar shape, as a child we draw these naive little buildings.
When I 'doodle' while on the phone or taking notes houses are a repeated theme.
I guess that is what compelled me to make the House Series of Felt Brooches
I love how each one is a little different, just like the houses in a street.

I recently started a board on Pinterest of 'little houses' that have all been handcrafted.
It is a theme that many crafters and artists are drawn to,
if you would like to see it here is the link
maybe you will be inspired by these artists and their craftsmanship also.

I hope you are having a creative day in your little house today,
~ Gillian ♥

home sewn......

 no.9

I have more charming little houses to share with you....
they are just so much fun to sew!

All made with pure wool felt,
These three are all around 6 x 4cm in size
No two are ever exactly the same as each one is
hand cut, pieced and sewn by me on my sewing machine :)

I hope you are having a lovely start to your week
and can find some time to create!

I made brooch no.4 today in the 'house series'.
I love this ones little Attic window,
made from sewing a little vintage mother of pearl button onto the roof.

little houses made of felt.....

This is my new wool felt brooch series
'the house series'
each little house is made of 100% pure wool felt.
They are carefully and slowly stitched on my sewing machine,
forming individual pieces that represent love for home and family life.
I love making these sweet little dwellings
and enjoy giving each little home it's own personality.
All layers are hand cut, layered and sewn and
no two can ever be exactly the same.
 no.3
 no.2
 no.1
below is a picture of the back of no.1
I actually love the reverse almost as much as the front of these little pieces ;)
they measure approx
 5.5cm tall and 4.3cm wide :)

& another two brooches from 'the circle series'

Hope you are having a nice week

paper torn, layered and glued....

It has been a little while since I have played with paper,
I've missed it!
not the mess, mind you...
I had forgotten how much mess I can make when I collage!
.........................
I decided we needed a something for the wall in our lounge room
so I gathered some old textbooks, paper, vintage dictionaries & atlas, mod podge, washi tape,
my brushes, spray graphite a couple of cog masks, a little chipboard birdie a 24" stretched canvas and started playing!
.........................
this is what I came up with
a piece that represents all of the members of my family.
God, maths, science, music, craft, space, nature, gardening, physics, sewing, craft, our surname, it is all there....things that represent each of the members of our family!
there is even a little lego tribute  ;)
There is a tree for each member as well -
standing tall and together.

I love this verse

The heavens declare the glory of God
the skies proclaim
the work of his hands
Psalm 19:1

It seemed to work perfectly over the top of the
Southern Sky star chart from a vintage atlas.
........................................
If you click on the photographs
they will probably be a little larger
if you would like to read anything on the collage.

Hope you find time today to be creative,
~ Gillian ♥

postcard bunting

I just loved these sweet postcards
that came free with one of my recent Mollie Makes magazines
so I decided they needed to go on display,
where I could enjoy them :)
they can be easily taken down or left up for as long as I desire.

all I used was some simple cotton twine &
some Nalclip's and a Nalclip dispenser.

I also think some lovely vintage postcards
or copies of vintage photographs would look great like this.
or
I thought it would be very cute to make some bunting like this
for someone having a birthday - from birth to their current age.

Such a simple thing to do with so many possibilities!

round and round I sew.....

Joy be yours this Christmas...

This image is from the front of a sweet little Christmas card
sent to my Grandmother from her cousin Louisa in 1914.
I thought you may like to save it and print it off for your personal use.
I just love the greeting and hope that
Joy be yours this Christmas,
